Shandur
is polo, what Wembley is to soccer. For three days each summer,
this spectacular place in Northern Pakistan is host to a polo
carnival on a play field that at over 3700 meters would seem
within touching distance of cool blue skies.
At
the meeting point of the majestic Hindukush, pamir and Karakorum
mountain Ranges, the kingly game is played on what is the
highest polo field in the world. This is exiting, daring,
dangerous and at times even wild.
While
the local participation is whole-hearted, the event is given
an international flavour by hundreds of foreign tourists and
diplomats
